More and more lagoon fishing is yielding more speckled trout. Finding the spots takes time, but once you find them they're there.
Glup whipped a 22" speck in less than a minute into fishing. Also, check out the chunk a hungry speck took out of my cork (orange rattle) last year.

Little Lagoon Payoff 3/20 Empty speck bait

Post  gulfcoastgamefish Mon Mar 23, 2009 8:49 am

I was fishing Lake Shelby for the past couple of years while it was full of specks and you could not go wrong with natural and molting gulp shrimp 3 or 4 inch. they would also blast topwaters in the evening. Occasionally they would school up and hit anything that moved. On the other hand, these specks in Little Lagoon are very picky and it pays to be ready with every bait you can get. A week ago they tore up bull minnows. This week they wouldn't touch 'em. Went to a gulp bait and they seemed to like that.

I typically release most fish, unless the drums are beating for a fish fry.
